If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then the front door is the entrances to the home – well, usually, unless you welcome your guests through your back door instead of the front door! And since the front door is the first thing that your guests see when they approach your home, it plays a magnificently huge role in giving your guests a good impression about you, your family, your home and your lifestyle. Funny how something like a front door can play such a huge role in the minds of our guest.
We will discuss several things related to the front door of a home here that you simply cannot ignore.
I’ve been to some homes where the front doors don’t have lights at all. First of all, the lighting at the front door serves a purposes. One, they light up the way, and two, it also lets people from the inside see who’s outside. Without good lighting at the front door, the peephole on the door serves no purpose at all at night.
The lighting at the front door helps the guests find the keyhole, the doorknob, see the path that they are trudging on so that they don’t trip and fall before they can reach your front door. The lighting near the front door is not too bright and not too dim
The lighting at the front door should not be too glaring (like a football field spotlight) and it should not be too dim (defeats the purpose). Usually, 1 or 2 60 watt lights placed on both sides of the front door will do the trick.
For the safety and security of you and your family members, you should consider getting front door with security door and screens. They also help maintain proper ventilation level without compromising on the safety of the home occupants. The front door should have double-keyed deadlocks. Front doors with peepholes are advisable for better security. This way, you can peep out of the hole of the front door to see who is at the front door before you open it.
To help maintain the front door, you’ll need to perform continual cleaning and up keeping of the front door. If the front door has been there for some time now, you may want to consider replacing the front door or at least touch up on the surfaces of the front door with a non-abrasive cleaner. If you think repainting of the front door is necessary, paint! You’ll be surprised, but by merely changing the color of the front door, the entire house or exterior of the whole home gets a brand new face lift! Try it.
